It was all a dream, I used to read style at home magazine.

Seriously. I had a Style at Home magazine subscription at a ridiculously young age. I remember cutting pages of pretty furniture and decor out of it and taping them as a border along my bright pink, orange and red bedroom wall in a perfectly symmetrical line. Looking back now, that was weird. It was a good day when I could convince my parents to help me rearrange the furniture in my room so that my bed and dressers were in different positions. It felt fresh. It made me appreciate the “stuff” in my room differently as I saw them in a new light or space. Remember those candles you had to melt to get to the friendship charm at the bottom? Oh yeah baby, that was top notch “apothecary” back then in my opinion.

Most importantly, when I walked into my newly rearranged bedroom, I felt happy. And like myself. I didn’t realize it then, but this was where my love for design started to bloom. In more ways than one I was trying to create a space that reflected who I was.

Fast forward to adult Carly and I would move to Calgary, AB in 2009 after obtaining my business degree. I spent the first 10 years of my career at an incredible company that invested in my growth and helped me build my skillset and career in unexpected ways. My love for creating amazing customer and team member experiences enabled me to travel and learn with and from some of the best in industry.

My husband Trevor and I always had a dream of moving back to Saskatchewan where we could raise our children around family. For us it was about finding the right timing, and most importantly, the right home where we could raise a family of our own. We were lucky when we came across the house that we are currently living in, in 2018. We knew that when this opportunity presented itself, we had to jump at the chance to buy it. It was the perfect footprint (I saw it as soon as I walked through the front door), it just needed some TLC.

In December 2019, we made the big move after a 10 month renovation process (managed from Calgary and not possible without the most incredible designers, trades and my dad who was our unofficial general contractor). Nothing like moving your life in the middle of a Saskatchewan winter, while pregnant, with a toddler. But we did it, and never looked back.

I’ve always helped my friends and family with their renovations and projects informally, but this was the first time I got to be a part of the process from start to finish and quite simply, it delighted me. I poured hours of time into the finishing touches of our home renovation and learned a tremendous amount both from the talented people who helped us bring our home to life, and the silly mistakes we made along the way. I wish I knew then what I know now (I cringe thinking about the time and money that could have been saved), BUT, it was this experience that motivated me to start Mood Room.

When I had my second baby girl, my maternity leave (and the global pandemic!) gave me the gift of time to think about what I value most in life and what I truly love to do. Mood Room was founded on these values and my innate passion for building relationships, adapting to the wonderful world of technology and solving (what I like to call) beautiful problems.

My hope is that Mood Room can help connect the emotions you wish to feel in your home, to a space that is functional, fresh and uniquely yours. Bringing you a sense of pride in your space isn’t simply my passion; it’s the cornerstone of Mood Room, and I’m thrilled for you to come along with me on this ride.

If you’re still reading this - thank you. Let’s be friends.

With excitement and gratitude,

Carly
